you will be able to find links to a recent speech Bill Gates made to the World Health Organisation. In it he makes reference to the importance of finding people who have found ways to make things happen with regard to the improvement of health, particularly for children. He has set up an award to recognised some of these people. Bill and Melinda continue to be Brightspot champions.

Supermarket Brightspot
I was standing in line at a supermarket checkout behind a slightly older
gentleman who was about to enter his pin to do an EFTPOS payment. He seemed to
think a long time about the number, including some pointing into space with his
finger as he “rehearsed” entering the number. Finally, he took the plunge and
entered the number – Decline. He went through the process again, checkout staff
told him to take his time and think carefully; he took his time and followed
his rehearsal procedure. Again he entered a number –Decline. Staff again
suggested he take his time and reminded him he would only get one more
opportunity. Quite calmly he went through his rehearsal procedure again then
entered the number – Ping – the till flew open. A big beaming smile appeared on
the gentleman’s face and the checkout staff cheered. For that one person this
was clearly a brightspot in his day.

The BrightSpotScout (that's me!) is on the lookout for BrightSpots. The Blogs noted here link or report on recently observed BrightSpots I have
come across.
come across.
Sometimes I will comment on ideas or themes about brightspots, but my main aim is to provide enough material for a reader to workout how the brightspot approach to promoting change might work for them.
what is a brightspot?
BrightSpots are everywhere. The more you think about them the more they appear. They are not just positive experiences (which are good!) or demonstrations of optimism (which is also good!).
A brightspot is something that goes against a trend and there is a good reason to believe that the new, or different trend is better than the current trend.

Note:
There is a similar place in MySpace that will have some of this material (and some earlier material) - I will now use this location as the main Brightspot4u space.
